Is Jim Moran Getting Serious About Impeaching Cheney?

jim-moran.jpgAs a result of the House voting to send the issue to the Judiciary Committee last week, the potential passage of articles of impeachment against Vice President Dick Cheney has most definitely become a more interesting topic of discussion. Although not everyone in the Democratic leadership is thrilled about the new turn of events, it appears as though Congressman Jim Moran is taking it quite seriously. Not only did he reportedly sign on as a co-sponsor of Rep. Kucinich’s bill back in July, but he has also now sent out an email asking people to take a survey regarding their position on impeaching Cheney.

According to the results as of 8pm tonight (Wednesday, November 14) almost 70% of the respondents believe he committed an impeachable offense with the vast majority (61% of the total respondents) of them believing that impeachment hearings should begin. On the other hand, only 21% of the respondents believe that Cheney has NOT abused his power as Vice President. For those of you who are wondering about the remaining 9%, they believe he has abused his power, but not enough for it to be an impeachable offense.

The results here are pretty much right in line with those of a recent survey conducted by the American Research Group (and, interesting enough, four of the six questions are phrased exactly the same). In other words, these sentiments are not just held by people receiving an email from a Democratic Congressman representing a district right outside Washington but are shared by voters across the country.

As the Democratic leadership sees these numbers, I believe they should remember that people went out to the polls last year and sent a clear message — we need people to stand up for the Constitution and the American public. Not people who won’t do what’s write because they’re afraid future opponents might use it against them in a re-election bid. Essentially, they need to reassure the American public that the Bush Administration will be held accountable for its actions and can no longer continuously ignore the Constitution. Having the Judiciary Committee begin conducting hearings will go a long way in providing that reassurance.

  1. If he is, he needs to get off the weed, man.

  2. We’re already having a hard time getting anything done in Congress. Why tie everything up COMPLETELY with an impeachment trial?

  3. I have started a new political party called the Liberal Democratic Party of the United States. You can read the web page at http://www.dmocrats.org and you will find that this party works differently from other political parties. Take a look and help enact progressive legislation and end the war where you work as a legislator and you vote on legislation.

We do not run candidates but rather we join together to use our purchasing power to leverage power away from the corporations that give money to regressives in both the Democratic party and the Republican party and we call these companies on the telephone and politely pressure them to talk to congressional leaders and the President and get our progressive legislation enacted and until the progressive legislation gets enacted into law we refuse to buy their products. Imagine thousands of party members calling these companies demanding progressive legislation and you will see positive results.

Get as many people to make these phone calls.

Call GOP contributor and war contractor General Electric Corporation at 203 373 2211 and ask for the public relations department. Tell the person in public relations that you want the GE CEO to get Bush to end the war in Iraq and then Bush resign with Cheney and until that happens you will not buy any GE products and that you will tell your friends about this.

Call GOP contributor Rite Aid at 1-800-325-3737 and tell the person to get the CEO to get the GOP to enact HR 676 Single payer health care and repeal Medicare Part D and place the drug benefit in Medicare Part B covering 80% of drugs with no extra premiums, no extra deductibles, no means tests, no coverage gaps, and remove the means test for Medicare Part B and until that happens, you won’t buy ANYTHING from Rite Aid.

Call GOP contributor Wendy’s restaurants at 614 764-3553 and Tell the person in public relations that you want their CEO to get the GOP to help enact a $10/HR MIN. WAGE into law and until this happens you will not go to a Wendy’s Restaurant.
