Virginia Young Democrats Elect Golden President

This weekend was the annual convention for the Virginia Young Democrats. After the formation of campaign websites, facebook groups, online polls, and interesting comments from a blogger going by the name “Fairfax Dem,” it appears as though John Alex Golden has defeated Erick Sanchez for the right to be the next president of VAYD.

My sincere congratulations are sent to Mr. Golden who’s past accomplishments and service to the Democratic Party make him extremely deserving of the victory. To see a list of other officers elected during the convention, you can visit Adam Sharp’s live blog of the event.

  1. Congrats to JAG! “FairfaxDem” should be commended for his integrety and ability to stand up for what needed to be said when no one else was willing to do so. Here’s to another sucessful year for the VAYD!

  2. And Bryan Scrafford should be applauded for fueling his comments! Hooray for underhanded backstabbing! Poor Morris for hiring a weasel…

  3. For the record, I have never written a single post or comment attacking Erick because I did not know enough about his candidacy in order to do so. Furthermore, you will notice that I even wrote a comment on this site encouraging those criticizing him to at least have the courtesy to put a name by their comments. I did this because even though I don’t believe in censorship, I do believe that even commenters on a blog must have respect for those who they are criticizing.

What I do find it rather ironic is that Erick and his supporters kept attacking people for anonymously questioning his creditionals, but the second anonymous statement here seems to be doing the same thing — except the comment is now directed towards me for allowing commenters to write reactions to my post. It’s funny how that works out. Negative campaigning is unfortunately sometimes a part of politics and it appears as though both Erick’s supporters and foes participated in this instance.

Finally, I see that Erick has recently been named the Students for Barack Obama Communications Director for Virginia. During the time I have known Erick, I’ve always thought he was an extremely nice guy and I therefore wish him nothing but the best in his new position.

  4. Reading comments, anonymous or otherwise, is always an interesting read on any bloggers page. I always “lurked” and read whats been said but never posted. But I would like to say that I think it’s rather distasteful to place blame and responsibility on Bryan for what others say.

  5. Poor Webb and Shannon for hiring a rat…
